The Don and Carol Christenson Art and Literacy Mission

The Don and Carol Christenson Art & Literacy Mission aims to provide opportunities for underserved children to experience the arts and literacy and how it relates to STEAM.

helloSTEAM is proud to announce the creation of The Don and Carol Christenson Art and Literacy Mission.

This mission aims to honor the memory of Carol Christenson by supporting young minds in art and literacy and how it incorporates with Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (S.T.E.A.M).

As a teacher, proud supporter and participant in the arts, Carol understood the importance of providing opportunities for children to have immersive learning experiences.

By blending art and literacy concepts seamlessly with STEAM education, this mission will continually provide opportunities for students in the Lansing communities to develop their interests and passions.

Through scholarships we will be able to empower children to explore their creativity while nurturing critical skills essential for their future success in this rapidly evolving world.

Who are Don and Carol?

Part of the Lansing community for over 50 years, Don and Carol were deeply involved in projects they were passionate about. Don holds his PhD in Crop and Soil Sciences and was a Research Scientist at Michigan State University for over 30 years.

Carol had her degree in Childhood Education and taught for years in the East Lansing school systems. She had a passion for education and was a founding member of the Friends of Haslett Public Library.

Both Don and Carol placed a high value on continuing education and the experiences that come with that education.

How are we doing this?

This mission will work to eliminate barriers that families face with their children’s education.

Transportation: Programming will be able to go TO the schools, teachers and students where they are at, eliminating transportation issues. Vetting: Teachers and programs will be sourced and qualified taking the guess work out of finding high quality programs.

Finances: 100% of the funds raised will go toward educational experiences for underserved students, eliminating the financial barriers many students and families face.

How can you participate?

Contacts and connections: If you have students or teachers that can utilize programming, please introduce them to us.

Volunteer: Those that have a passion and skill set for working with students, art and literacy or STEAM concepts are welcome to apply to volunteer with us. Donate: 100% of our funds go directly to supporting students and teachers and providing educational experiences.
